Michael Collins is a London-born author, journalist, television producer and broadcaster. He has written for the Observer, Guardian, Independent, TLS, Telegraph, Prospect, New Statesman, Literary Review, Wallpaper, Arena Homme , Esquire, Vogue, Sunday Times. His book The Likes Of Us: A Biography of the White Working Class won the George Orwell Prize in 2005. ‘With The Likes Of Us Collins becomes an anatomist of England to dwarf almost all others’, wrote Bryan Appleyard in The Sunday Times. While The Independent described the author as a ‘poetic hooligan’. Collins wrote and presented the Channel Four film The British Working Class in 2005. In 2011 he wrote and presented The Great Estate: The Rise & Fall of the Council House, broadcast on BBC4 and BBC2. He has contributed to BBC The Culture Show, The Politics Show and Radio 4's Start the Week, Woman's Hour, Saturday Review, The Long View. His BBC4 documentary on suburbia Everyday Eden was last broadcast in 2018.
